Riverside Writers

The group has been in existence four and a half years and meets; for now, once a month on a Friday, 14:00-16:00 hrs, at the Riverside Library. The group is led by Rotherham writer Ray Hearne.

We are a collection of people who want to write and we try to encourage each other to keep getting better. We write stories, poems, even songs.

We don’t do negative criticism but neither do we indulge in vapid back-slapping for the sake of it. We listen to each other’s stuff then try the best we can to talk about it.

What we are trying to do, I think, is to nourish our own individual abilities to see more clearly, if we can, how our own writing is shaping up, what might be some of its strengths and what areas might need some more focused work and attention.

But we’re not at school and we are not working towards anything beyond exploring our own creative capabilities, surprising ourselves as to the impressive levels of art fermenting in our collective bones and willing each other towards getting better; in our own terms, at what we do. We can signpost people to small magazines and towards opportunities to perform their work.

So, have a read at some of this stuff and if you want to be a part of it or find out the date of the next meeting, contact Ray on: 07903241947

We hope to see you soon!
